Guides for law and accounting firms
Plain-language answers on using AI with client files, with the primary sources behind each one.
The guides
- Before your firm puts client files into AI. Ten questions for law, accounting and tax firms. Most firms can answer them in an afternoon.
- Can lawyers use ChatGPT with client information? What the Florida Bar's ethics opinion says about confidentiality, consent and checking AI output.
- Can accountants put client files into ChatGPT? What US law says about tax return information, and what the FTC Safeguards Rule asks of service providers.
- A one-page AI policy for law and accounting firms. Seven short rules to adapt and sign, each marked as sourced or as our suggestion.
How these are written
Each guide follows the primary text: an ethics opinion, a statute, a regulator's guide. We quote it, link it, and say where it stops. They are general information, not legal or tax advice.
When the answer is that nothing outside your firm may see the file, the AI has to run on your own hardware or in your own cloud account. That is what Aether Core is for.
